ข่าวที่พอจะเป็นกำลังใจสำหรับคนที่ถือ EGCOMP เหมือนผมครับ =)
Electricity Generating Plc (Egco) and Unocal (Thailand) Co Ltd are discussing joint business investments that will combine their individual strengths in the power and oil businesses.
"The investment will focus mainly on power generating," said Somyos Polachan, Egco's senior executive vice president. "The partnership will have a business edge over others thanks to the presence of Unocal, which will guarantee stability in terms of fuel."
Somyos said the business arrangement would involve Egco jointly investing in existing and future power-generating projects. Alternatively, Egco could invest in Unocal's petroleum exploration field.
Somyos said that the partnership grew out of the good business relationship between the two companies developed during their joint investment in Amata Power Bangpakong Ltd, a small power producer with capacity of 112 megawatts.
The latest power development plan approved by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat) allows private companies to participate in power generating bids between 2008 and 2015.
"This requires Egco to be prepared, especially in the area of fuel supply," Somyos said, explaining the reason for the partnership.
To secure fuel supplies, Egco has a policy of holding a stake in fuel interests. And the partnership is not limited to Unocal, now a major natural-gas producer.
Unocal previously held a stake in Nam Thuen 2, a 900MW hydropower plant in Laos, and a 51-per-cent stake in Hongsa Lignite, also in Laos.
Somyos said that Egco was eyeing investment opportunities in existing independent power plants.
