Kaboul has impressed Spurs boss Jol on and off the field
Tottenham have secured the signing of £8m-rated France Under-21 captain and defender Younes Kaboul from Auxerre.
Spurs appear to have beaten off tough competition to land the 21-year-old centre-back with Roma, Inter Milan and Portsmouth linked to the player.
"If you ask people in France who is seen as the hottest prospect in defence they will say Younes Kaboul," Spurs boss Martin Jol told the club website.
"It's important to have quality players in defence and with him, we have that."
Jol's willingness to field young players appears to have swayed Kaboul's decision.

The French Under-21 captain follows close friend and Arsenal midfielder Abou Diaby, who joined the Gunners from Auxerre in 2006, to the Premiership.
"Younes possesses power, great pace and is good on the ball and strong in the air," said Spurs sporting director Damien Comolli.
"He is a good leader who showed a great desire to come to us despite interest and offers from numerous other clubs.

"From day one he said 'I want to play for Spurs' and his personality made a big impression on Martin and myself.
"He has been a regular in the Auxerre first team for the past two seasons and is an excellent signing."
Tottenham have been one of big spenders of the summer as they have already signed Gareth Bale for up to £10m and striker Darren Bent for £16.5m.
Kaboul has added to their expenditure but they could recoup some of their outlay if they decide to sell right-back Pascal Chimbonda, who is reportedly a target for Chelsea.
Birmingham manager Steve Bruce believes new signing Hossam Ghaly has the technique, hunger and aggression to be a major asset in the fight for Barclays Premier League survival.
Bruce has spent £3million to make Ghaly his eighth signing of the summer, subject to a successful application for a work permit, following Blues' return to the top flight.
The 25-year-old Egypt international has signed a three-year deal with the St Andrews club, with the option of a further two years.
Kevin-Prince Boateng admitted it is a 'dream' to have joined Tottenham after completing his move from Hertha Berlin.
A length of contract or fee for the 20-year-old midfielder has yet to be confirmed, but Spurs are reported to have agreed a deal in the region of £5.4million to beat Sevilla to the Germany Under-21 international.
Boateng quickly established himself as one of the Bundesliga's biggest talents, scoring four goals in his 42 league appearances for Hertha as well as being voted the country's best young player in July last year.
But he revealed the chance to make a move to the Premier League and join Martin Jol's young side was too good an opportunity to turn down.
'For me it is amazing to be in England,' Boateng told the north London club's official website.
'To be in London and playing for Spurs will be great for me. It has been my ambition to play in England, I am 20 now and am about to quickly realise my dream.
'I know that Spurs are a team who like to play offensive football. The club want to climb higher next season and I want to be a part of it.
'I watched the Premier League regularly in Germany, it is the most famous league in the world and I have always enjoyed it.'
Boateng becomes Spurs boss Martin Jol's latest summer signing having already acquired a talented trio of youngsters - Darren Bent, Gareth Bale and Younes Kaboul.
And the Dutchman is confident that in Boateng he has signed yet another young fledgling who will boost Spurs' bid to break into the top four.
He explained: 'Kevin is a talented player who plays for the under-21 side of his country.
'You could compare him with the likes of Aaron Lennon and Tom Huddlestone in that he is an exciting player for now and the future.
'He is an attacking midfield player, very strong and that is one of his main assets.
'In Germany he is regarded as one of the biggest talents, we recognised this and went in for him.'
Boateng will boost Jol's midfield options after Egypt international Hossam Ghaly left White Hart Lane to join Birmingham for £3million - subject to a successful application for a work permit.
