Buffett Reports $100M In Formerly Confidential Holdings

WASHINGTON (Dow Jones) --Billionaire investor Warren Buffett on Friday disclosed nearly $100 million of previously confidential holdings.

All of the companies named in the new list, which represents holdings as of June 30, were among the companies that Buffett's investment vehicle, Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (BRKA), had previously reported holding stakes in as of June 30.

On Aug. 16, Berkshire Hathaway reported that it held about $36 billion worth of securities in various companies as of June 30 but also said it had holdings that weren't publicly disclosed. Under confidential filing status, an investor can keep holdings secret for up to a year before the information is released by the SEC. The special treatment is designed to limit market reactions and to protect investment strategies.

In Friday's filing, Buffett didn't indicate why he sought confidential treatment for the comparatively small stakes in companies that his investment vehicle was already known to be invested in.

Buffett said he was reporting the stakes because "confidential treatment is no longer warranted."
